About Snake
Snake is a grid-based arcade game where the snake moves one cell at a time across the board.
Your goal is to eat food, grow longer, and keep moving without hitting a wall or running into the snake's own body.
How to Play
- Press Start Game to reset the board and begin the countdown.
- Use arrow keys, WASD, or swipe controls to turn.
- Guide the snake to the food cell.
- Each food item increases the score and snake length.
- Keep playing until the snake crashes.
- After Game Over, press Play Again to restart with the same countdown.
Rules
Only one food item appears at a time, and it is always placed in an empty cell rather than on the snake.
The snake cannot instantly reverse into the opposite direction. The round ends when the head crosses the board edge or touches the snake's body.
Score and Best Score
Score increases by 1 for each food item eaten. Length shows how many cells the snake currently occupies.
Best stores the highest score saved in this browser using localStorage. Start Game and Play Again clear the current round but keep the saved best score.
Strategy Tips
- Leave yourself room to turn before collecting food near a wall.
- Avoid trapping the snake's head inside its own body loop.
- Use the outer edge carefully, but do not rely on it when the snake gets long.
- Plan one or two turns ahead as the board fills.
Saving and Resetting
Snake saves only the Best score in this browser. The current board, direction, food position, and current score do not persist after refresh.
Clearing browser storage may remove the saved best score.
Controls
Desktop players can steer with Arrow keys or WASD. Mobile and tablet players can swipe left, right, up, or down on the board.
The board can receive keyboard focus, and the Start Game or Play Again control is a standard button.
