Choose a difficulty, reveal safe cells, and flag the mines before you clear the board.
How to Play
- Choose Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert.
- Reveal a cell to start the timer. The first revealed cell is always safe.
- Use the numbers to work out where hidden mines are located.
- Place flags on cells you believe contain mines.
- Reveal every safe cell to win.
Rules
Each number shows how many mines touch that cell, including diagonals. Empty cells automatically open nearby safe areas.
Revealing a mine ends the game. The game is won when every non-mine cell has been revealed.
Strategy Tips
- Start with open areas and use revealed numbers to narrow down mine positions.
- Flag cells only when a number gives you enough information.
- Look for groups of numbers that share the same covered cells.
- On Expert, use horizontal scrolling on small screens instead of shrinking the board too far.
Saving and Best Times
Minesweeper saves the best completion time separately for Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert using localStorage. A time is saved only after a win.
Restarting or changing difficulty resets the current board, timer, mine counter, and state, but keeps saved best times.
Controls
Use left click or tap to reveal a cell. Use right click to place or remove a flag on desktop.
On mobile, long press a hidden cell to place or remove a flag. Long press does not reveal the same cell.
