About Hangman

Hangman is a classic word guessing game. The goal is to reveal the hidden word by choosing letters from the alphabet.

Each correct guess fills in every matching letter. Each incorrect guess adds one mistake, so the challenge is to solve the word before reaching six mistakes.

How to Play

1. Choose a letter from the A to Z buttons.
2. Correct letters appear in every matching slot of the hidden word.
3. Incorrect letters increase the mistake counter.
4. Solve the whole word before making six incorrect guesses.
5. Use New Game to start over with a different word.

Rules

The word is selected randomly from a local list of common English words. The same letter cannot be guessed twice in one round.

You win when every letter is revealed. You lose after exactly six incorrect guesses, and the correct word is shown after the round ends.

Score and Progress

Hangman tracks the current mistake count for the active round. There is no saved score or best record in this version.

The six-part progress indicator fills as incorrect guesses are made, giving a quick view of how many chances remain.

Tips and Strategy

• Start with common vowels such as A, E, I, O, and U.
• Try frequent consonants such as R, S, T, L, and N once you know some vowels.
• Use revealed letter positions to narrow down possible word patterns.
• Save less common letters such as Q, X, and Z until you have a clue they might fit.

Controls

Use mouse click or touch controls to choose letters. Keyboard letter input is also supported on desktop browsers.

Letter buttons are disabled after use, and all letter input stops once the round has been won or lost.

Saving and Resetting

Hangman does not store round progress or statistics in localStorage. Starting a New Game clears the current word, mistakes, used letters, and message.
